About Ataşehir Blood Draw at Home
For most people, giving blood takes a few seconds; but for someone whose veins are hard to find, who is wary of needles or who struggles to get out of bed, those same few seconds can become the most stressful moment of the day. A blood draw at home is a way to have this short procedure done in familiar surroundings, without rushing and with a technique suited to the person. The nurse comes to your home, your office or the hotel where you are staying; all you have to do is sit in a comfortable chair and hold out your arm.
For whom is a blood draw at home the more comfortable option?
Anyone can use this service, but in some situations the convenience it offers is far more noticeable. For elderly relatives or family members with limited mobility, the effort of getting dressed, getting into a car and sitting in a waiting room is removed. Expectant mothers who need frequent blood tests during pregnancy, people recovering after surgery and chronically ill patients under regular follow-up do not have to travel for it either.
It is also a practical solution for people who are short on time. Giving blood at the office between meetings, or without leaving your hotel room during a business trip, is an easy way to avoid putting off check-ups. Difficult veins, fear of needles and blood draws in children
Thin, deep or rolling veins can make the procedure harder both for you and for the person performing it. At home there is no one waiting in line, so the nurse does not rush; they take the time to warm the arm, try a suitable position and, when needed, use a fine-needle system such as a butterfly needle. If you have felt dizzy or faint when giving blood before, just mention it at the start; the procedure can also be done while you lie in your own bed.
With babies and children, familiar surroundings are half the battle. Little ones usually stay calmer in their own room, on their mother's or father's lap, distracted by a favorite toy. Explaining the procedure to your child beforehand in short, honest words works better than making promises you cannot keep, such as "it won't hurt at all".
Because veins can be more fragile in older people, the tourniquet is not left on longer than necessary, and pressure is applied to the site for a while after the needle is removed. For bedridden patients, the arm is supported on a pillow at an angle that does not tire the patient.
The evening before and the morning of the procedure
You can ask the doctor who ordered the test, or ask us when you book, whether fasting is required; the fasting period depends on the test. These small preparations make that morning easier for you:
- Unless your doctor says otherwise, you can drink water while fasting; staying hydrated makes your veins easier to find.
- Do not skip your regular medications on your own; ask your doctor whether to take your morning dose before or after the blood draw.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol the day before.
- Wear a loose top with sleeves that roll up easily, and make sure the room is not cold.
- Have the test request form or test list and your ID ready.
- Prepare a light breakfast in advance to eat once your fast is over.
If you take blood thinners or have had prolonged bruising after a blood draw before, be sure to tell the nurse. This allows the pressure time and the dressing after the procedure to be adjusted to you.
What happens during and after a blood draw at home?
The nurse first verifies your identity and the requested tests, then labels the tubes in front of you. All needles, tubes and cotton pads used are sterile and single-use. When the procedure is finished, the needle and other materials go into a medical waste container; none of them are left at your address.
After the procedure, keep the cotton pad pressed down for a few minutes and do not bend your arm; this is a simple way to reduce bruising. Try not to carry anything heavy with that arm for the rest of the day. A slight ache is normal; but if swelling grows or your hand feels numb, call us.
The tubes are transported to an accredited laboratory with the cold chain maintained, and your results are shared digitally. If you are curious about which tests can be ordered, our test catalog explains each test individually. If your doctor has also ordered a urine test along with the blood test, your sample container for a urine test at home is brought on the same visit.
Scheduling your appointment at the right time in Istanbul
For tests that require fasting, early morning is the most comfortable option, since most of the fasting time then falls during sleep. For someone who lives in Üsküdar and has to go to a hospital in Bakırköy, for example, Istanbul's morning traffic needlessly prolongs the time spent fasting. When you send your request to our call center, which is available 24/7, we get back to you within 3 minutes on average; if the schedule allows, same-day appointments are also possible.
The service is available in all 39 districts of Istanbul. Curavita Evde Sağlık operates as a licensed provider under a certificate of conformity (Uygunluk Belgesi) issued by the Provincial Health Directorate; our responsible manager is accountable for every procedure performed at home. If you are booking for an elderly relative, being with them at the time of the visit, or having someone they trust accompany them, makes the procedure more reassuring for them. If you prefer, you can also send your request via the appointment form.
